Artist Statement
I create art as a way of nurturing self-compassion. It could be a way to embrace my own vulnerabilities and, in turn, offer a sense of warmth and understanding to others. My work is a space where humor and tenderness coexist, where whimsical characters and layered visual elements reflect the shared complexities of being human. Through the use of colors, shapes, and shifting perspectives, I endeavor to explore themes of hope, security, and acceptance. I do not intend to present these themes as lofty ideals, but rather as small, quiet moments of solace. In a world that can sometimes feel chaotic, I hope that my art might serve as a gentle reminder that imperfection has its own beauty, and that we all deserve kindness, especially from ourselves.
Biography
Soobin Jeon was born in New Jersey and spent formative years between New York and Seoul. She is a mixed media artist based in Boston. Her expertise extends to ceramics and practices at Harvard Ceramics Studio. A graduate of the School of Visual Arts in New York, with a BFA in Graphic Design, Soobin has also completed several residencies throughout her career, each time expanding her artistic horizon and cultivating her creativity.
